Aunt Kay

When Momma left

you were always there.

I never had to worry about nothing.

I always knew my hair would be combed

and I knew I’d be fed.

Aunt Kay never told us her struggle

making 8 dollars an hour as a maid.

I never knew how she had a smile.

How she always provided.

It wasn’t even just me, my baby brother too.

Aunt Kay was strong. In the real way.

Taught me how to carry a house

how to be a lady.

Aunt Kay held me to cry and showed me who I was.

Making me who I am.

I wish I knew when she was alive.

I wish I could thank her one more time.

I love you. Aunt Kay.
