Asset

Who says I am a liability because I

Have big lips and a big nose

Who says I am a liability because I

Have nappy hair and brown skin

Who says I am a liability because I

Eat fried chicken and watermelon

Who says I am a liability because I

Drink grape soda and kool aid

Who says I am a liability because I

May be the descendent of a slave

I see it as normal, because I know that

I am not the only one with has big lips and a big nose

I am not the only one with nappy hair and brown skin

I am not the only one who eats fried chicken and watermelon

I am not the only one who drinks grape soda and Kool aid

And I am not the only one who may be the descendant of a slave

And I am not just talking about black people

So, why am I a liability when I

Do my work and I pass my classes

Why am I a liability when I

Read to better my knowledge

Why am I a liability when I

Strive to go to college

Why am I a liability when I

Persistently reach towards my dreams

What makes me a liability?

Absolutely. Nothing.

I am not a liability

I am an asset with a life of my own

Not to be shared or compared with anyone else

With a destiny for success

I am not a dropout

I am not a disappointment

I am not a low life

I am not a failure

And I am not

A LIABILITY
