Article 16 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution.

“Love is patient, love is kind.”

But, in this country, love as no mind.

“Love does not envy, it does not boast.”

Yet we still ban two men from a wedding toast.

“Love is not proud. It does not dishonor others.”

But we do not allow two women to be mothers.

“Love does not delight in evil, it always protects.”

Yet article 16, California strongly rejects.

How can love trust?

How can it hope?

For goodness sake, there is a gay pope.

How can Love persevere?

How can it thrive?

If the human race has such a huge divide?

How can we boast of our “diversity”

If we lack acceptance and honesty?

If it’s a nation of equity we want to lead,

Then article 16 is just what we need.

Article 15 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

"Everyone has the right to a nationality.

No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his nationality nor denied the right to change his nationality"

Assimilation is the key

To strip from man his nationality.

To take his people

His mind

And tongue

Is to force a new identity upon a previous one.
