Anything For Christ

1. St. Sophia, a Christian mother
And her three holy daughters
Gained many heavenly treasures

2. The first daughter was St. Pistis
Whose name is a virtue we bless
It means faith which we confess

3. The second was St. Helpis
Her name’s meaning is
Hope in eternal bliss

4. St. Agape was the third
Her name means love with which we gird
Ourselves to be pure as a bird

5. St. Sophia, whose name means wisdom
Took her daughters to Rome
To learn Christianity at home

6. Hadrian the infidel emperor
Told them to worship the idols or
They’d see life no more

7. Despite their very young age
The girls looked to their heavenly wage
And resisted the emperor’s rage

8. St. Pistis the 12-year-old
Was promised treasures and gold
But she remained steadfast and bold

9. She was tortured and beheaded
And for Christ her blood was shed
“Glory to God,” everyone said

10. St. Helpis, who was only ten
Was tortured and beheaded when
She refused to accept any sin

11. At nine years old Agape the youngest
Was threatened like the rest
Of her sisters, and began her quest

12. Through her mother’s support
Who was there to remind and exhort
She showed no fear of any sort

13. She approached the pressing wheel bravely
Asking for God’s mercy
So an angel broke it instantly

14. Hadrian then ordered
That the young saint be burned
Seeing the fire, she boldly entered

15. On her face she made the sign
Of the cross, and three men who did shine
Entered with her and kept her fine

16. Many observers perceived
God’s power, and they believed
Then martyrdom they received

17. As for St. Agape, she faced
Hot rods in her sides placed
But this was painless through God’s grace

18. Finally she was beheaded
And the three bodies were carried
By St. Sophia the blessed

19. As she wept outside the city
St. Sophia asked God that He
May take her soul kindly

20. God responded to her
And she joined her daughters
In heaven forever

21. Hadrian’s punishment
Was a horrible sickness
Then he died for his harshness

22. Your faith O holy mother
Moved you to courageously offer
Your three saintly daughters
