Anybody

“Anybody” by Mackenzie Payne

Our time on Earth is fleeting,

Our life a blink of Her eye.

Filled with countless meetings,

Shadowed by endless goodbyes.

Where there’s dark there’s light retreating,

Where light’s retreating are closed eyes.

All lives cut short despite pleading,

For all who live must die.

With death all eyes are opened.

Those who lived in dark are forced to see:

There was always light, no need to pretend,

But then it’s too late to flee.

For now you live, and live you must;

For life’s a gift and should be treated as such.

Live to die with no regrets,

Live to give the dark a threat.

You need to be who you want to be;

You don’t have to be just anybody.
