americans dreaming.

The American dream?

I must be dreaming,

I heard a man say “I've got a dream”

And what he got, was shot in the brain.

Brave? Home of the brave? If brave  means;

A fear of the chemical reaction between melanin and sun

The notion that women are something to be done

And the definitely not misinformed belief

That all Indians are muslim creeps

Than sure. Home of the brave.

Hugely brave. The bravest.

Welcome in. When,

When you ask me if we're the land of the free,

I'll smugly smile, and rich like oil say:

“We're about as free as anyone could hope to be!”

Hashtag alternative facts.

And while we're on that subject let me just say,

Deception has never made anything great.

I pledge allegiance that I will find no grievance,

With the hypocrisy: “Hey, this is 2017!”

And the issues aren't issues because we've issued a tweet,

Or because we love one another –

Almost as much as the dust on our feet.

There is no equality when a black kid grows up with a white one,

And the latter is told what a good thing they've done,

It's not we the people,

When I never even noticed I was being raised to hate your people,

Im sorry. Under God, I am sorry.

And I have to say,

Our millennial branded love is not enough to conquer hate.

I hold this truth to be self evident,

That no social change is permanent.

That our prejudice is still quite prevalent.

That we cannot be defined by our president.
