America the Great

America, The Great

Here lie the words that I pen to you.

Hoping that they pierce your armor.

Like your bullets do.

I am not wishing harm.

Because a life is not the price of a life.

But I am wishing that next time you just think.

Next time you pull over someone;

Don’t think of the color of their skin.

As they sit compliant

Think not to reach for you gun.

As your finger rests on the trigger;

Think of how this is going to end.

A child fatherless:

A woman partnerless:

A mother childless:

My people here are the words that I pen to you;

I understand that you’re hurt, I feel the same too.

I pray that you think.

As you lay your loved ones down for their final rest;

Don’t contemplate all the ways you can get revenge.

As you hurl that brick through the glass;

Think of how you will be paying for it in the future.

Behind bars, ending up with less then you came with.

As your hand holds steady on the trigger;

Think of how this is going to end.

A child fatherless;

A woman partnerless;

A mother childless;

America here are the words I pen to you;

Your colors forever red, white, and blue.

Red representing the blood that washes through the streets;

Blue for the collars who are meant to protect;

White blind to the consequences of our actions;

Think of what would be if we all worked together.

Red, the love that keeps us bound and fighting the good fight;

Blue, the ocean that washes away the grunge, the sins, and the pain;

White, a clean slate to build a better future upon.
