America
It all started with thirteen little colonies
And a group of men who were known commonly
As the Founding Fathers of this great nation.
Franklin and Hamilton,
Madison and Jefferson,
Adams and Henry.
All they wanted was economic liberty.
But when Sam and his Sons had a tea party,
King George III wasn’t too hardy.
Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts,
Closed down the harbor, and levied a tax.
The Continental Congress responded with an Olive Branch.
They wanted no war, but it just rolled into an avalanche.
Finally, they all got some Common Sense.
It was too late for recompense.
“Give me liberty or give me death!”
Said Patrick Henry with one breath.
From then on, the goal was separation,
T.J. laid it all out in the Declaration:
Life, Liberty, the Pursuit of Happiness for all.
Though well-intentioned, it ended in a brawl.
This became known as the American Revolution,
And in 1789, we got the Constitution.
All because some guys dared to stand out,
America became something I couldn’t live without.
