Ambition

Put your best foot forward;
you will never stop climbing.
Do what you love,
and love being top-notch.
If at first you don’t excel,
then you’re not doing it right.

Don’t bother entertaining
the spite of jealousy.
Find those who shine brighter,
keep your eyes focused on them
as you buckle down and take up arms.

Cleave your way through strife;
the agony of battle
will only make you stronger.
Fight until you reach the pedestals
on which your stars reside.
Then, when finally you are equal,
you can strive to surpass them.

There, at the very top—
at the crown of humanity,
is erected a solitary throne.
You can sit there for a while,
basking in undiluted sunlight.

You will later find it to be
a very lonely place.
All those you left behind
will look up at your lofty perch
and yearn to ascend to such height.

But they lack the fortitude;
the steel will and self-control,
which you grasped so long ago.
Do not concern yourself with them.
Because in that palace
where you so desire to be,
you won’t need any friends.

Besides, they are beneath you;
bumbling, incapable peons,
unwilling to grasp at
what you rightfully attained.
Nothing but failures
that you may freely trod on.

And so, this fire
burning in your breast,
will always rage within you
until you conquer your world.

Then, when you are victorious,
and there are no more
mountains left undisturbed,
the torch that drove your heart here
will burn what’s left to ashes.
