The Age-Old Question
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
The question is asked of us
Year after year.
As we grow older,
It comes with greater frequency:
Month after month,
Week after week,
Day after day,
Until finally
Our parents beg of us,
"Just choose
SOMETHING!"
For my entire life,
I have always answered this question with
"Teacher."
And then
I took a literature class.
Confusion ensued--what if
Teaching is
Too easy?
Too boring?
Not intellectually stimulating enough?
What if
Teaching isn't
My dream job?
I began to consider
Editing,
And I loved the idea of it:
Countless hours with books,
Loving them,
Critiquing them.
But as the time for a decision drew nigh,
I realized
As much as I love to read...
I love kids even more.
I love
Watching them grow,
Seeing their faces light up
When they finally "get it."
I could never do without that.
And so,
My "maybe education" major
Is now a certainty--
At least for me.
