Affections

Location

He loved her as one loves a goddess.

She was his Aphrodite

a beautiful virgin goddess to be loved and adored.

He felt the sunlight itself radiating from her

and casting its glow across all that she touched.

She was a statue of fine marble

her beautiful golden curls adorned by a halo of light.

He loved her by ignoring her flaws

and pretending they weren’t there.

His goddess could never be flawed.

She loved him as one loves a man.

He was not perfect

but deserved all the love of one who was.

She felt the darkness in his heart

and tried in vain to defuse it with her light.

He was a hopeless fool

but she recognized the beauty within.

She loved him by acknowledging his flaws

and loving the man behind them.

Her man was unfortunately and magnificently human.
