(2 of 3) Penance is Hell

Sun, 06/09/2019 - 20:21 -- Aegis

Lightning is too quick

Though loud and all-consuming

Fire is too somber

Though torturous and burning

Cacti are too dormant

Though you scream as it peels off

Falling is too definite

It ends your sickly cough

Vipers though are perfect

As they glare, you cry in vain

You watch restrained by terror

You watch and go insane

It coils ever so slowly

Its tongue a ticking clock

Its eyes so intensely say the words-

of which you cannot stand the shock

then it STRIKES in and back on out

a hissing sound remains

STRIKES again and then you shout

for peace and better days

STRIKES your pride and petty ways

STRIKES your fallen hope

STRIKES and screams are all that’s between

you and your venomous foe

It pauses as you whimper soft

-though it does not leave your side-

You lay there, face covered in blood

And try your pain to hide

You try to get upon your knees

But hisses flare your wounds

You tremble and tears shiver out

You know the monsters boon

it STRIKES your arm and you scream-

but it STRIKES your arm again-

it hisses as you collapse on ground

and tastes the scented air

it STRIKES your thigh then pauses

for you to dread the coming pain

it STRIKES and STRIKES AND STRIKES AGAIN

YOU CANNOT OVERCOME

It hurts.

And you wait,

And you hear it almost laugh

You cry and look upon yourself

Bloodied, yeah, real tough

You release your tears and whimpers

As you close your eyes to life

The venom overtakes you

An endless dream of strife
