1 Out of 300

Location

I am 1 out of 300.

That's how many are in my class.

We're Seniors now.

All 300 of us.

We leave in May.

Then we go to College.

I am 1 out of 300.

They'll be engineers.

They'll be athletes.

Hairdressers.

Soldiers.

One is even going to be a welder in Alaska.

I am 1 out of 300.

No one is going to be a teacher.

No one is going to be a protector.

No one is going to be a guide.

No one is going to be the one constant in a child's life.

Except for me.

I am 1 out of 300.

The others, they ask me "why?"

They don't understand.

It's okay. They don't have to.

They can't comprehend how deep this goes.

This desire to make a difference.

I am 1 out of 300.

Children are the future.

I'm no longer a child, but I've always known.

I've never needed to be told.

I am not the future.

But I am going to shape it.

I am 1 out of 300.
