I used to dream of lab coats,
Of saving people’s lives.
I used to dream of science fields,
‘Til counselor mocked my fear of knives.
I then moved on to pursuing art,
I’d let people interpret my dreams.
On canvas, cloth, on human flesh,
But Dean yelled job stability; life’s theme.
My professor suggested I settle down.
I jumped to his field of psychology.
How can I try to analyze others,
When thus far they’ve flopped on assessing me?
Now I think back to my seventh grade,
To a teacher whose name I can't recall.
I told her my plans and said I was floundering,
But maybe it was they who dropped the ball.
