The Privilege Is You

There are things that break
I have 4% left on my computer
and shaking my head to Book of James
by We Are Augustines.
It was a privilege to know you
To hold you in my thoughts
my prayers
no matter whatever you believe
It was a privilege to know you
I turned my song off
So I could concentrate on this
a little better
It was a privilege to know you
and your curls
and your honeyed hair
and your sassy crop
It was a privilege to know you
and your massive thoughts
3%
It was a privilege to see you
breathing, thinking, knowing,
alive.
For it is with a nearly satisfied heart I say
It is a privilege to live.
Therefore, I, in turn, know it
is a privilege that you and I
we live on this world at the same time
I find it a privilege in existence
and not a message from the past
but a present hope and enduring light
and I hope you see it through
everything.

What a privilege to have a friend
What a privilege to know a soul.
It is a privilege to know you.
What a privilege to witness life.
I am only nearly satisfied in my heart
because of the noose that hangs around your neck
no, not of death,
but of sadness
and grief
and pain
and terror
and the monsters in your head
and mind
and mine
but it is still a life
and it is still a privilege to know you.
