We're different, but its alright

Why does skin color matter?
We are people, arent we?
Black brown or white
We differ but its alright
We’re all humans? Arent we?
Why must we fight?
Im multiracial and its alright
Black, indian, creole and white
I love all my cultures, its so nice
Why am im not accepted?
Am I too light? Is it the way I talk?
Im not considered bright? I may
Not be einstein? But im still alright!
What happened to its on the inside that counts?
Why must our personality be judged by our skin tone
Its assumed we’re dumb cause our skin’s different
mixtures of black, brown, and gold
My people went through hell,
Yet they still remain strong,
They were raped, brutalized,
Stripped of their homes,
Forced to migrate,
Whipped if they were slow,
Sold like food items,
Auctioned like cars,
They had rights,
But what happened to ours?
Police beatin us in the night
Im not mad, but it just aint right,
Give us this, dont judge us by sight,
You only heard what we went through,
You don’t know what we go through,
The discrimination, racism, ain’t new
We still go through it, driving in the streets,
At work, walking home, and even at school,
Its just hidden, secretive, rarely noticed
Why does skin color matter?
We are people, arent we?
Black brown or white
We differ but its alright
