Words felt against my cheek,
Like calloused fingers sliding down my face,
Spoken softly just for me;
The language of those long gone
Whom I count amongst my friends.

Words, like the touch of your skin against mine
In the dark, warm and soft and short of shocking.

Words you speak, captured in my hands,
Trying to escape my grasp,
Slipping through my fingers,
Meant for a lover’s ears.

Words never spoken, found only in scenes I dreamed up,
Wishing for something that would never be,
Wishing for a love between me and you.
