Friend Forever

Talking to a friend so far away

Arouses the apex of my lonely day.

Although ago, we used to play,

Time went on, as if to say

The friend I knew is something more

And at least for me, I wholly adore

Her smile that spans beyond the shore.

It reaches me across the sea, and mends the matter of my core.

I understand from trials past,

From tricky tribulations that didn't last,

That I love a girl across miles vast,

But fear to share for my own outcast.

I've known her for years

But she followed my fears,

Should have lowered my hopes and listened to peers,

Now she loves another while I swallow my tears.

I understand that I am to blame

For my ecstasy over low and lame

Talks we would have without any shame.

I was not the player, but rather the game.

Of course now she is closer, though still far away.

I hope to see her on one lonely day.

And like so many years ago, we will play

Until I tell her what I have to say.
