My Own Light
After a day of monitored shining
I can finally light up with a flame.
By day, your fear, to me, undermining.
By night, alone, my real self I proclaim.
Blazing and alive, but you wouldn’t know:
‘Cause you see self love with nothing but fright.
“She’ll blow up the world, we’ll be left for woe,”
You say as you extinguish my own light.
I’ll just keep practicing, behind closed doors,
While you live, comfortable, thinking I’m tame.
Come day of my disclose, breaking your snores,
I’ll reveal my great light, bearing no shame.
That day you will see, my light doesn’t just burn.
It can light and warm, despite your return.
