Petals

It did not carry the petals very far,

The cold wind that blew across my face

Left a tingling reminder on my nose and cheeks

As I looked at the flower that had suffered the loss

For it could not evade the rudeness of the errant wind;

The dew-drops resting upon the grass blades glisten

In the bright sunshine like many diamonds askew

Haphazardly and invitingly offering restful ease;

Spread on the soft wet grass I wait for

Those petals to return home soon.
