Normalizing The Femme Fight

Belief,

In everything from magic to the people on the TV,

Waiting for beloved book characters,

To join in our daily adventures,

Think,

That boys are gross and mean,

And that girls and girls aren't meant to love,

That the world waiting for us,

Is just as bad as the one above,

Taught,

Bullying is normal,

Just a part of life,

And one of the boys that bullied us,

We just might be their wife,

Little girls' strife,

Born into a life,

Where everyone has a knife pressed to their throat,

Just lying in wait for us to rock the boat,

A normalization,

That directly results in transformation,

Forcefully contradicting any explanation,

Determination,

To be more than an expectation,

The social norm drilled into our heads,

Until we end up dead,

Us girls are small and weak,

We will never be able to compete,

Let the boys do all the heavy-lifting,

Hope you're content just babysitting,

And all girls should live in the kitchen,

Don't worry if they won't listen at first,

Just one beat,

And the good girls love meat,

Shut up and take a seat,

Change,

Something's missing,

The only thing gained is the weight of being the same,

Pacifying everyone else,

While still trying to be ourself,

Smart,

Don't wear those clothes,

We'll be asking for it,

Don't say those words,

Or we'll be damned for it,

Blend,

Don't stand out,

We'll make them stare,

One wrong move,

And they'll kill us with a stare,

Young girls' strife,

Born into a life,

Where everyone has a knife pressed to their throat,

Just lying in wait for us to rock the boat,

The normalization,

That directly results in a transformation,

Going beyond any explanation,

Determination,

Not to be defined by expectation,

The social norm drilled into our heads,

Until we end up dead,

Us young ladies are small and frail,

Unable to compete or ever prevail,

Let the young men go to jail,

Because we'll be stuck forever making bail,

And all girls should work in the kitchen,

If they won't listen,

Just one beat,

And all good girls love meat,

So shut up and take a seat,

Stop,

Telling us that we are meant to be a certain way,

Making it seem like we can only be one thing,

Saying we are behind and weak,

When you are the ones knocking us off our feet,

Advancement,

We're willing to move forward,

 No hard feelings,

But you aren't ready for us to be equals,

You fear our capability,

Fight,

No war is desired,

But it seems to be your innate desire,

We will go to war,

Because unlike you, we understand what we are fighting for,

Our female and femme friends' strife,

Struggling not to end our life,

Where everyone has a knife pressed to our throats,

Just lying in wait for us to rock the boat,

This poem is about:
Me
My country
Our world
