Echos of the Past
Honey I can hear you; I’ll be there in just a second.
Coming back from the kitchen with what she always recommended.
A small glass of tea which was to be, never too hot or cold.
A glass for each of us, painted with marigolds.
Gently setting them down on the small table, taking a seat next to her.
I had traveled many places, but a seat next to her I’d always prefer.
She was the sunshine of my life, the beautiful colors of my rainbow.
Smiling to my girl, I heard an echo.
But she continued to laugh and chat as my mind wondered what I heard.
As I listened closely now, my Dear wasn’t speaking a word.
I turned to her confused as she gently took a glass of tea.
She smiled and took a drink and gestured the other one to me.
I wrapped my hand around the glass taking a drink.
She held the glass with her fragile hands and took a pause to think.
Her lovely smile had slowly disappeared as her hands trembled to hold.
Falling down came; the glass marigolds.
She looked to me with glossy eyes as her arms stretched out to me.
Shocked with what was; time for recommended tea.
Tears filled up her eyes as we both knew what was happening.
Looking into her perfect eyes as my hands from hers were slipping.
How sadness fills me up seeing my Dear alone, remembering the time that’s passed.
Now we both hear echoes of the past.
