Seventeen

Location

Farewell to the youth and lust long gone

Innocence evaporates before the dawn

As to the rest of the world to the New Year sings

I stand before you barely seventeen

Once a naive lovestruck lass

Yet now that everything has come to pass

I feel I've grown bitterly crass

As experience has accumulated quite a scheme

A tad more skeptical now almost seventeen

Love was lost and confidence found

A purpose and striving, and newness abounds

Who I was before this memory

Will forever be forgotten on the edge of seventeen

Tonight the ball will drop and the crowd will cheer

While in my solice I silently fear

Who I will be once a year passes

Once eighteen arives

and seventeen amasses
