My Old, Faithful Friend

Thu, 07/07/2016 - 18:36 -- DJV

A cold, wet rain is falling down in sheets

A car continues on its winding road

A face stares, shivers with ev’ry drop seen

Her companions ignorant to the cold

Ever growing, ever freezing, ne’er seen

The cold festers and simmers, threatening

Her peace. More dangerous than it has been

in a long time, e’er swelling, e’er wanting

To be free. But she pushes it down, beats

It one more time on that long winding road

By writing a verse. It slow, steady leaks

Out her heart, releasing her heavy load

Yet it will grow, freeze, eat at her again

Come back thriving, like an old, faithful friend
