The Evolution

i.

Sometimes, poetry is a chore.

When you have to assign words to the letters in your name,

or dissecting it till you vomit up meaningless meanings

that your teacher wants to hear.

But then there are times when poetry is not a chore,

and it somehow feels like a blessing.

ii.

Out of the blue, a book that's been lying around for ages catches my eye.

And for some reason, my eyes grow legs and I crawl towards the novel -

a novel written in poetry verses -

something very foreign to me;

but the kind of foreign that feels like home.

iii.

Soon after I end my journey,

I end up getting so inspired

I start to form unique worlds in my mind.

Poetry becomes a part of me.

It fills the silence, and listens to the nonsense in my head.

It helps me make connections and see other sides.

Poetry is a shoulder to cry on;

a helping hand.

Poetry can knock life out of you,

but it can also help you stand.
