#

I am right in front of you.

how many of you are actually listening?

I can hear their cry.

Their cry gets louder as more and more people turn their backs

It’s present day.

#Bring Back Our Girls

“Western education is a sin

Regrams and retweets

Boko Haram ostracized

reality  publicized

Publicized to show that the importance is nothing unless it’s multiplied

#publicity_stunt

Malala became 276 different girls

Malala lives on.

Nobel prizes is how we honor fighters

But once they can’t fight anymore.

#quickly_forgotten

equality is a battlefield and gender is our weapon

not a weakness

so I fight, even if I fight alone.

I fight the battles in hopes that one day we’ll win the war.

i fight against the idea that they will be taught that tears water

I fight against the idea that women mean nothing

It’s Present day

And gender is the bullseye

Don’t wear short skirts!

Don’t wear low tops!

Don’t wear tight jeans!

Don’t wear a frown on that face!

But just in case, (pause) I have to carry around a bottle of mace because God knows I can’t risk being taken away too.

This is America

Taken from my rights

my right to speak!

my right to go to school!

my right to write!

my right to define my Rite of passage!

It’s present day

Religious traditions stay the same

Liberty remains a masculine word

It’s present day

Outrage boils in the media

#Bring Back our girls?

bring them back to hopeless lives

bring them back to futures that have already been inscribed on their birth certificate

#Bring back our girls(challenge)

bring them back to a changed world.

where they can speak their minds

go to school

write

define THEIR Rite of passage

and choose education

like I choose education!!

#no_woman_left_behind

I am still in front of you

Don’t tell me that it was just another news report

Don’t tell me(short pause) that we supported them

Don’t tell me (short pause) because we all know we fell short.

Don’t tell me.

Show me.

show them.

Because I can still hear their cries at night.

i can still see people turning their backs

we can’t bring them back

cause we left them behind

Their sacrifice has to mean something

That’s why I’m NOT going away

I am right in front of you

It’s present day

I can still see injustice.
