The Plea of a Child

Sun, 02/07/2016 - 15:32 -- Julslk

You’re too young to understand

It’s an adult’s job. We know what to do

It doesn’t matter what ideas are inside of you.

An 8 year old’s mind does not know what this means

so sit down now and eat your veggies and beans

I know you’re 11 but mom and dad know best

So please stop trying to fix it, we’ll do the rest

Great. you’re 15, we’re so proud of you.

But remember we were once 15 too.

We were 18 as well

We don’t mean to be mean

But you are wrong it would seem

We love you for who you are right now

But things like this you just don’t know how

~

Maybe I’m young, a child with dreams

At times I talk and you don’t know what I mean

My mind is a galaxy filled with comets and stars

I want you to help me. Not stuff my stars in jars.

Here is the key to my imagination. I’m giving it to you so

please

respond with elation

One day I may be a leader or inventor

Or doctor or scientist or jury or judge

I need you to listen

Not think that my thought is just a smudge

The job of the parent is to give their kid a nudge

I promise I’m not really holding a grudge.

I just believe that the job of a child

is more than to play, laugh and be wild

Who knows what is locked inside such an adolescent brain

If all motivation with the adults remains,

who knows how long we will wait for the train

So hop on aboard to the thoughts of a kid

When they say something strange don’t walk away

Instead listen to them, try to pop open the lid.

Who knows what miraculous thoughts will come forth

Look for those bright ones from the south, west, east and north

They may not be educated or old or wise

But look at their heart

and look at their eyes.

So please

learn to listen to the children

for they’re going to be the next

generation.
