I am ME

I am a girl with a history.

I was the fat kid; the loner

The ugly girl; that weirdo with a butt chin;

That girl who didn’t know her own identity.

I was called out of my name so many times

My brain couldn’t bear to hold all the memories.

I was the kid who couldn’t build self esteem

Because every time I started laying the foundation,

Someone took a wrecking ball and tore it down

And after several failed creations,

I began to knock my Lego castle down

Before anyone could beat it down themselves.

But that mindset?

That's just history.

You see,

I am the "ugly fat kid with the nappy hair"

Who learned to love herself

Despite the wrecking balls

That ripped through my Lego creations.

I am the girl

Who ignores social stipulations,

Who blocks out the haters,

Who is healing every day.

Most importantly,

I am me, and I am not fat,

I am thick and I am healthy.

I am not ugly; I am beautiful.

Yeah, I am still weird

But being weird is amazing and I’m fine with that!

You can’t throw my “flaws” at me anymore

Because

I am me.

Me
