The Best Present of All

The wind blows,
The snow flows,
Drifting in and out of children's dreams.
We hear the tick tock,
Of Santa’s watch,
Waiting to see his sleigh.
Here on Christmas day.

The chimney shakes,
The floor quakes,
Quivering in the weight of many gifts.
We hear his ho ho’s,
And chuckles below,
But we dare not stare,
For we do not wish to give him a scare.

Footsteps shower,
In this joyful hour,
As Christmas morning shines.
Gifts are here, there, and everywhere, and I look for mine.
The presents were overflowing.
Our faces were glowing.
Mom and Dad wake,
And the floor shakes.
They entered the living room with a smirk on their face.

They give us a hug and a kiss, and asked me what did I get.
I simply gave them a smile,
And thought for a while,
And said,
“Just what I wanted,” with a grin on my face.
“Another memory here in this place.”
