I remember the smell of old spice
swirling around the truck as my door opens,
The way the warm heater mixed with the winter chill
embracing my body and tickling my nose.

And the chorus of laughter echoing
as we climb in our traditional seats,
all awaiting this new adventure with old friends.

I remember that jolt of acceleration
as he zooms through the endless subdivision-
houses blurring as we race onward
to our endless evening.

And the surge of energy pulsating
through my nerves as I sneak a glance at him,
only to catch him slyly smiling back.

But what I remember most was
his sparkling eyes
his comforting smile
and his warm hands.
