It's Sad to be Alone
Location
It's sad to be alone
Especially when you're
Not alone at all.
You're sitting there
The TV's on
Yet it's set on mute
Your sister comes in
You ask a couple of questions
Hoping to strike up a pleasant conversation
Her reply: "Too much"
Then she leaves in exacerbation
Much to my frustration.
Alone again
In silence ubiquitous
I sit there pondering
What I did to deserve this.
My mind's eye is drowned
In a flurry of scenes
Whose overarching theme
Is clear: You do deserve this.
For in my younger and more
vulnerable years
I was a sullen wreck
I kept aloof
At my sister's expense
At every kiss
Caress
Hug
And plea
And boy do those pleas
Still haunt me in my dreams,
Pleas to stay
Pleas to accompany
Pleas to spend time
Watching movies
And play Monopoly
I point blank refuse
And sought refuge in my room.
