Rain
Location
Drip! My eyes slid open, searching the sky
I slowly start to listen, my senses opening to the world around me
Drop! I smiled as the sky grimaced and growled
Mad at this part of the earth
Mad at itself
I slowly descended the steps as tears fell outside
The dark, sobbing sky calling my soul
Barefoot, I stepped outside
And walked in the rain to no place in particular
My footsteps increased; I ran
Rain pelted my body, soaking my body as I sprinted
Suddenly engulfed in a forest of tall oaks
Still I ran branches scratches at my flesh
My vision blurred from the misty tears of the sky
I suddenly stopped in front of a tall ancient oak
Towering most, fearing none
I looked at its bark running my hand over it
Over the carving we made way back when
When our love was young and new
Our initials in a tree supposedly a reminder of everlasting love
Residing of earth for all time as we fade away
A reminder of our lives for others to behold
A reminder to us of the wonderful memories
The beautiful moments and the romance
The images flashing before my eyes as I hug myself in the storm
I start to sing my love for you, only you
I sang about our life together
I sang about how you make me feel
How your smile warms my heart
How your touch sends me flying
How your voice makes me dizzy
How your love heats my soul and makes me love you even more
When I finish, I lean into our reminder
Rain pelting my body, filling me with sorrow
I am alone
I begin to cry, tears mixing with rain
I sink to the forest floor and scream your name to the heavens
“Why did you leave me?” I cried
Strong arms imprison me in a loving hug “I never left”
I pivot in the embrace and met his eyes the eyes I fell in love with
I touched his face to see if he was real
I kissed him there, tears down my face again
“You’re never alone” he said when we parted
“I will be with you, in love with you always”
