David
No clouds dotted the amber sky when
David was found hung to a gnarled tree.
Beaten, bruised, and bloodied.
Tongue split apart, a tooth hung by the vein.
Arms twisted. Legs broken.
His face worn and colorless,
Because of whom he kissed.
David, the gentle,
The boy with a smile two sizes to tight
Who only desired to blend into the shadows
Became the spotlight
Once his eyes flickered out.
