pavement blues

cold beneath my body
I'm glued to the ground
my body too heavy to stand
walk
and yet you expect me to
fly
invisible bruises
cover me
from all the times
your kind
has kicked me
closer to the
pavement
clipped my wings
so I can never fly
how do you expect
me then to do
more than
lay in 'your'
streets
and die.

Being able to fly away from certain situations is something that everyone wishes for at some time in their lives, but since we don't have wings, we need to learn to escape in different ways, like through writing and poetry.
