How to Start a Fight
Standing outside with a quarter and phone
I decide to call my long lost mother
Though now I’m free and finally alone,
Her voice is sand which under I smother
An older man beside me calls his wife
He’s running out of time and has no change
I give him mine, hits my mom like a knife
And then he glares at me like I’m so strange
The ring of her phone would light up her face
Like the camera when we were outside
“Smile, please,” she’d say, and we’d frown, a disgrace
The shutter would blind us, the kids would hide
He slams down the phone and away he went
It was the best quarter I’ve ever spent
