If I could change
Just one part of what it is that makes me whole
I would stop being scared of what is not
what has yet to come and what has already happened
I would have opened my mouth to speak the words
If I could change one thing
I wouldn’t feed the hungry kids
Or make homelessness a myth
One thing.
One reality that abides arrant with the earth
The hatred we embrace between us,
The war, the aggression.
We slaughter our fellow men.
And for what?
To conserve our freedom?
Emotions move people like a river moves rocks
Flowing, rolling, changing the water's course
Life has meaning for all kinds of feelings;
Joy for momentous times, sadness for goodbyes
If I could change one thing
I would have to start with me.
My past, present and future
As a human being.
I would start with my past,
Standing up for myself.
When all else seemed lost,
