A year ago today, I was half asleep.
I heard the alarm ring through the streets
Hands up! Don’t shoot! Hands up! Don’t shoot!
and I? I pressed snooze.
A year ago today, I went back to sleep –
It's funny you spoke of change; you swore you would never go back again.
Yet you stayed in the mess, waiting for a "savior."
Praying that would be me.
A year ago I would've let you.
Everything was lilac
Everything was warm
Everything was simple
You could hear the waves crash on the shore
You could hear the birds singing
You could see the future and it didn't seem out of reach
