My name is Mikayla Elmashnni. I am an American citizen, but my ethnicity is middle eastern. My father is of Jordanian descent, and my mother is Chaldean, the indigenous race of Iraq. My favorite hobbies are writing and reading, and I aspire to be a published writer or poet someday. I write about the pain I've experienced in my own life, racism and social injustice, my love for travel, and magic. I hope the poem I've submitted for this scholarship resonates with women about the racism and self-esteem issues that they have faced.
