Poems from Nailah

My primary goal for going to college is to provide a stress-free life for my mother and brothers. I chose to further my education at one of the most prestigious historical Black universities, Clark Atlanta University, and I knew that college would be a stepping stone for a successful and fulfilling life. I am showing my community that if I can go out-of-state and accomplish my goals then it would be a blueprint on how to achieve their dreams of wanting more than the diminutive crumbs that was given to us. I traveled 1,000 miles away from home to step outside of my comfort zone and branch out from the small, harsh environment from which I lived in. I am the first in my family to go to college and I will be the first to graduate and show everyone that it is possible to be Black, educated and successful.
