And though words can harm and destroy, they can also help to heal and express, which is why I write poetry. Poetry has helped me - and is counting to help me - with mental illness. I'm an advocate for using and enjoying the arts because they can simultaneously act as a powerful tool to make connections and as a coping mechanism. I hope to make at least one person's life easier by reading something I've written, just as reading someone else's material has done for me.
