You've Been Pawned

Another year, come and gone;

Broken and recreated strong,

Smashed away to smithereens.

Now love fills my life's canteen.

A year ago lodged in my throat

Nonexistent happiness I could gloat.

But now, my heart climbs through my chest.

My love will never come to rest.

You broke me then, I was a mess.

You took my queen in life’s game of chess.

But I’ve crossed the board with my pawn,

And now your pieces are all gone.
