Your love alone

Mon, 08/29/2022 - 14:52 -- Grant12

In life I prayed each day to God

that one day you'd grow strong

For there is no way

you would've happened on your own

Yet time has passed to quickly

in this world where I was born

And at times

it had me feeling all alone

And when I'd cry in want with tears

forever feeling torn

You're loving smile would

bring me back again

We'd laugh and sing most every night

to all our favorite songs

It was that joy we shared

that help me understand

While the years before your mother died

I dreamt how it could be

But instead of feeling thankful

I felt strange

So when she was taken from me

for a time I couldn't see

And by the time my eyes were open

I had changed

And by now that you have seen my grave

I beg you not to mom

For there is more to me in death

than rocks and sand

My body may be buried here

but whatever's left lives on

it was your love alone

that made me who I am

I wrote this poem for a friend that suffered a horrific loss.

First her mother and then her father,

I wrote it from the perspective of her dead father

in the hope it would bring her some comfort!
