Your Freedom

If I ask when you won your freedom,

Could you give me a reply?

Could you list the names of men

And women who fought until they died?

Could you tell the tale of those who fell

Fighting for what’s right?

Or would you take a bow and turn away

to dissolve into the night?

Have you shed a tear for freedom

For a hope you held inside

That one day soon you’d tell your child

it’s safe to go outside

Do you talk about your freedom

Or has it always been a verse

In the song your parents sang to you

While others learned to curse

Some freedom is a rocky road

With cliffs on every turn

It can take years to spark the flame

But watch us as it burns

If I asked you for my freedom

Would you give me a reply

Would you watch the tears stream

down my face and look me in the eyes?

If we asked you for our freedom

Would you join the battle cry

Or would you choose to turn away

Again.... and let us die?
