You Were Mine

I needed you and you were mine

From the beginning for my mother's peace of mind

so loving and gentle with eyes ever so kind

Now time goes by and you gained my trust

this to me a sacred must

You couldn’t know I would see no one else

for if not you

my illness, I’d keep to myself

I watched you so close each visit I came

I knew in your shoes I’d walk just the same

You’d answer all my questions with such warm smiles

that I’ll carry them with me all through my miles

Thank you for being a man so wise and so kind

I hope I do you proud when it comes my time
