You Think I Don't Already Know?

Appreciate your wisdom bout the biz'

but I think I have a little better clue

My soul and heart have always known

this is what I'm born to do.

The performers’ life is rough and tough

it's unsteady as a canoe

But there also is no other medium

to feel this immense gratitude.

My comfort zone equals danger zone

for there I cannot thrive

My dream turns to reality when

when being realistic I defy

For do you really think I do not know

the great amount of risk

that comes from training for a career

that may not even exist?

To grow as a performer and a person

I have to be willing to dare

to come up with the means required

to relocate to Time Square.

After all is said and done

which will leave more regret--

Safely enrolling in a school by me

or my dream school with some debt?

I grew up with no father

He passed away when I was two

I will pursue my dream not just for me

But for the dad I never knew.

The reality is I would be deceiving

Myself if this life I did not choose

To audition, learn and communicate

And step in the actors shoes.

So once again thank you

For all your great advice

Of how scary and unrealistic

It is to live an actor’s life.

“You have no guarantee,

      You’ll have weird jobs

You’ll have to work with snobs.

You’re virtually signing up to fail”

                “Oh

“You think I don’t already know?”
