You Know Who You Are

We treasure silences and heart-felt songs,

Join in places where we don’t belong.

We’re treading water in the desert sand.

I’m sinking slowly and I have no legs to stand.

We take our chances lost to what’s ahead,

Seeing ghosts, conversing with the dead.

We’re caught in glances by an angel’s eye.

The shrieking comet comes; the world around us dies.

We are the ones who try though we fail a thousand times.

We are the ones.  We sink or swim and don’t know who to trust sometimes.

We are the ones who douse the fire that burns us in our home.

We are the ones who are ourselves when we’re alone.

Your whispers touch me and I’m swept away.

Lost in comfort, afternoons betrayed.

We sing of what is found, what's lost and gone.

Not wasting in the past we all must saunter on.

We dance, romance, and waltz away our past lives,

Trust, robust, and age ourselves in wine.

We jade, then fade, and leave our memories behind.

We are the ones who try though we fail a thousand times.

We are the ones.  We sink or swim and don’t know who to trust sometimes.

We are the ones who douse the fire that burns us in our home.

We are the ones who are ourselves when we’re alone.
