YOU CAN'T

It's like everytime I tell someone my major they respond differently

They scream "YOU CAN'T!"

Some say "Wow, that's bold!", some ask me "Are you sure you wanna do that?" while others proceed to remind me how competitve the film industry is

It's like before I even learned how to fly they tried to try and clip my wings

They say "why choose that when you could be anything?"

An engineer, a lawyer, maybe study medicine

But you choose ISO's, f stops, and movie screens

They tried to clip my wings so that I couldn't wake to my fantasy

so that my imagination couldn't be relayed in reality

Maybe my dreams of being a director would magically

Allow my heart and soul to be displayed on your TV

They scream "YOU CAN'T!"

But I simply can't resist

Because it's all I could imagine since the age of 6

From Cinderella at 5 to Inception on Netflix

Cinematography has engaged my cerebral cortex

Whenever I hear the word aperture my heart begins to yearn

For the day that I can show them what I truly did learn

From  them chanting day and night "Josh YOU CAN'T!"

I'll show them you can do anything if your heart truly burns
