You are my Sun

You are the light that shines above me,  burning and bright. You make my path clearer in the dark of the night. You burn bright. Sometimes too bright. Then all you do is burn. My skin reddens and blisters. Pain comes from what was only intended to be good. Although, the wounds eventually heal and you continue to light my way in this world. You are always over me. Watching and waiting, waiting and watching for your time to come and be needed. When night comes I always know you are still there. Even when you are hidden by my friend, the moon. No matter how tight I squeeze my eyes, to my great surprise, you are still here for me. You shine on. Protecting me from the freezing harshness of this world. Mom, you are my sun.
