You and Me

I see you everyday,

But you never see me.

The special person
that you watch consistently day by day,
Why can't that
person be me?
I know that they're nice,
I know that they're talented,
And smart,
And attractive,
Brave,
Skilled,
Everything that I've
ever wanted to be;
Why can't that person be me?
Am I jealous?
Possibly; but I would never hurt that special person of yours,
I just want to know,
Why can't that person be me?

Your eyes watch longingly at their face,
Your heart pounds against your chest,
Your ears listen to their words,
When that person comes near.

Don't you realize that I also do that, when you're here?
You dance with them,
Smiling, having the
time of your life,
And
me, your faithful friend,
Stands awkwardly at the balcony,
Drinking punch.
As you twirl,
Spin,

Dance,
I wonder,
Why can't that person be me?
My eyes are filled with tears,
And I
walk away.
I know I'm not talented,
Or smart,

Or attractive,

Brave,

Skilled,

Or anything that I've always wanted to be,
But I work hard,
I try to speak with kind words,
And do my best in life.
I'm overjoyed that you're my friend,
But I can't help but wonder,
Why can't
that person be me?
My feet shuffle,
My head turns,
And I think,

Why can't that person be me?

Why can't that person be me?

(Alternative ending)
And I unexpectedly smile.
Why mope?
Why cry? Why obsess over you?
You are happy,
As should I.
Maybe I'll be that
person to
you,
The one that you care over all your friends,
Or maybe,
I'll be that person to someone else.
We walk near each other,

A friendly smile escapes our lips,

And we dance.

As we do, I realize

It doesn't matter,
Why did I not see this before?
We fell,
I for you,
And you for me,
As friends.

That will never change

Even if other things will.

I try to not wonder anymore,

Why can't that person be me?

Why can't that person be me?
