this is a letter to you from me,

you might not care for it right now,

but in the end, the things that i wrote will be things you’ll agree.

 

you can flip through magazines

and find girls with the shiniest of hair, and hips

that fit like a glove on every seam of their jeans

 

you can look through the class’s test results

and discover others so smart

you’re so dumb, you say, adding self-insults

 

but break through the mirror

so you'll resee your smile, so bright and wide,

radiating up through the atmosphere.

focus on that, and your flaws will hide.
